Our Story

From a Garage to Data Centers Across the USA

What started as a single Ethereum rig in a California home has grown into a nationwide mining operation helping thousands of clients build wealth through cryptocurrency mining.

The Beginning

One Ethereum Rig, Endless Ambition

It all started in Edward's house with a single Ethereum mining rig. Vlad Kolomyza and Edward Zhidovlenko, two friends with a shared passion for cryptocurrency, decided to put their money where their mouths were. The hum of GPUs became the soundtrack to late nights spent learning the ins and outs of mining.

Success came fast. That first rig turned profitable, so they built another. And another. Before long, 6 GPU rigs filled Edward's garage, running around the clock to maximize mining rewards.

Growing Demand

From Miners to Sellers

Word spread. Friends, family, and then strangers started asking: "Can you build one for me?" The garage operation evolved. Vlad and Edward weren't just mining anymore—they were building and selling rigs to a growing customer base hungry to get into crypto mining.

But selling hardware was only half the equation. Customers needed somewhere to run their machines. The solution? Turn Edward's house into their first unofficial colocation facility. Every outlet, every circuit, every amp was put to work hosting client equipment alongside their own.

Blue Oaks: The First Real Data Center

December 2021 marked a turning point. Pickaxe opened its first proper data center in Blue Oaks, Roseville, California. No more residential circuits and extension cords—this was industrial-grade infrastructure built for serious mining operations.

The Blue Oaks facility became the proving ground for everything that would follow. Professional cooling systems, redundant power, 24/7 monitoring—the standards that would define Pickaxe's approach to hosting. Today, this location serves as the corporate headquarters for operations.

National Expansion

Coast to Coast

The Roseville facility filled up fast. Demand kept growing, and California's energy costs were eating into margins. The solution was clear: expand to regions with cheaper power and more favorable conditions for mining.

What followed was a methodical expansion across the United States. Washington, Mississippi, Nebraska, Idaho, Iowa—each location chosen for its unique advantages in power costs, climate, and infrastructure. The garage operation had become a truly national enterprise.

Hardware Acquisition

Pickaxe: Crypto Mining Hardware

Years of operating our own facilities gave us deep relationships across the mining industry. We work directly with all major manufacturers—Bitmain, MicroBT, Canaan, and more. We've built connections with the largest suppliers, brokers, and operators in our network to source the best deals on hardware.

That's why we built out our Value Rack—a dedicated team focused on getting any equipment order done. Whether you're buying a single machine for home mining or brokering 1,000 units in a site-to-site sale, we leverage our network to find the right hardware at the right price.

Data Center Operations

Nexus: Infrastructure at Scale

As the operation grew, so did the complexity of managing power, real estate, and large-scale infrastructure. To better serve clients with these specialized needs, Vlad and Edward spun out their data center operations into a separate entity: Nexus.

Nexus handles the heavy lifting of the mining industry: brokering power purchase agreements, facilitating site acquisitions and sales, and managing large-scale mining operations. With on-site staff, expert repair services, and some of the most competitive power contracts in the industry, Nexus enables mining at a scale that would have seemed impossible from that first garage rig.
